When a standard box nearly fits, you pay for the gap twice - in void fill and in volumetric carriage. Bespoke packaging starts from the product dimensions instead of from a catalogue.
Bespoke packaging is packaging designed around a specific product rather than selected from a standard range. WSUK specifies and supplies custom formats for UK businesses: cartons made to internal dimensions, fitted inserts and partitions, cut foam, corrugated fitments, presentation and retail formats, and protective solutions for awkward, fragile or heavy items. We work from your product measurements and the way it travels, produce a sample to approve, then supply the production run. It is worth doing where a standard box forces excessive void fill, where damage is recurring, or where the unboxing matters commercially. For corrugated boxes specifically, see bespoke carton manufacture.
A bespoke format is specified from the product outward - dimensions, weight, fragility, orientation and how it is handled.
Corrugated cartons built to your internal dimensions in the board grade the product and the journey need, rather than the nearest stock size with the gap filled in.
Corrugated fitments, cut foam, moulded pulp and board partitions that hold the product in position so it cannot move, rattle or press against a wall.
Formats for products that do not sit in a cube - long, heavy, irregular, delicate - and for products where opening the box is part of what the customer bought.
It is not a premium option by default. A fitted pack often costs less to ship, less to fill and less to replace.
Measure, design, sample, approve, supply.
Dimensions, weight, fragility, orientation, and how it travels - parcel network, pallet, retail backroom. The journey decides as much as the product does.
Format, board grade or foam density, insert design and closure, specified against what the product and the journey require.
A physical sample made to the specification, so you can put the real product in it before anything is produced in quantity.
The approved specification is produced and supplied, and held on a call-off schedule if that suits how you despatch.
Bespoke packaging is specified and supplied from our Midlands Golden Triangle base to businesses throughout the UK - the design work is the same wherever you are.
Bespoke packaging means the pack was designed for the product, rather than the product being made to fit a pack that already existed. In practice the trigger is almost always one of three things. The first is a gap: the product sits in a standard carton with two or three centimetres spare in every direction, and that space gets filled with void fill on every single order and charged for by the carrier on every single order. The second is damage: the same item keeps arriving marked, bent or broken, and more protective material has not fixed it, because the problem is that the product can move rather than that the padding is insufficient. The third is presentation: the pack is part of what the customer experiences, and a box with a rattle in it undermines the product inside. Bespoke work starts with measurement - the real external dimensions of the product, its weight and its weak axis - and with the journey, because a pallet-delivered item and a parcel-network item have completely different failure modes. From there the specification covers format, board grade or foam density, how the product is held, and how the pack closes. You approve a physical sample with your own product in it before anything is produced in quantity. Bespoke is not automatically the premium option: a fitted pack frequently costs less per despatch than a standard box plus the fill and the volumetric surcharge it needs. If the right answer turns out to be a standard line after all, we will say so - packaging supplies covers that, and foam packaging covers the cut and profiled foam side in more detail.
Specification first, then a quote against it.

Everything you need to know about bespoke packaging at WSUK, answered plainly.
Anything specified to your product rather than chosen from a standard range - a carton made to internal dimensions, a fitted insert or partition, cut foam, a corrugated fitment, or a presentation format. If a standard line would do the job, we will tell you that instead.
Per unit it can be, and per despatch it frequently is not. A fitted pack removes void fill from every order and removes the air that volumetric carrier charges are calculated on, so the comparison that matters is the delivered cost per order rather than the price of a box.
The product's external dimensions and weight, how fragile it is and in which direction, how it currently travels, and ideally a sample we can measure and test against. Photographs of a current pack and any damage help.
Yes. A physical sample is made to the specification and approved with your own product in it before anything is produced in quantity.
Yes - see custom printed packaging. Print and format are specified together, because the format affects what can be printed where.
This page covers bespoke packaging of any format - cartons, inserts, foam, fitments, presentation. Bespoke carton manufacture is the corrugated box itself: internal dimensions, board grade, style and tooling. Most projects involve both.
Yes. A bespoke line is usually produced in a run and then called off, which is exactly what packaging stockholding is for - you are not storing a production run in your own unit.
Yes, and they are different problems. Fragile items are usually about preventing movement and transmitting shock away from the product; heavy items are about board grade, closure strength and whether a person can lift it safely.
Frequently it is the more sustainable option, because a fitted pack uses less material and less void fill than a standard box doing the same job. See sustainable packaging.
