Greater Manchester has a deep HGV driver pool and intense competition for it. Trunking out of Trafford Park and Salford, container traffic on the Ship Canal and intermodal terminals, airport linehaul and urban multi-drop all draw from the same licence holders. Because drivers here can change operator without changing their commute, the operators who retain are the ones with consistent work, compliant vehicles and yards that turn drivers round quickly.

Four kinds of work, one pool of drivers
Trunking out of Trafford Park and the Salford and Eccles corridor onto the M62, M6 and M61 is the largest Class 1 category and the one most drivers prefer — trailer swaps, predictable mileage, minimal handball.
Container and intermodal work from the rail terminals and along the Ship Canal is Class 1 skeletal work governed by booking windows. It suits drivers who like repetition and frustrates those who do not tolerate waiting.
Airport linehaul from Manchester Airport at Wythenshawe is time-critical and night weighted.
Urban multi-drop across a conurbation of nearly three million is mostly Class 2 and is shaped by access and congestion. It is the hardest of the four to recruit for, so if that is your work, your rounds need to be realistic and your advert needs to be honest about handball.
Fleet compliance is a recruitment signal
Greater Manchester’s Clean Air Zone position has changed more than once, and drivers do not track the policy detail — they track whether an operator seems on top of it.
An operator who can answer a direct question about vehicle standards reads as well run. One who is vague reads as the kind of place where other things are improvised too, and experienced drivers in a market this size simply go elsewhere. It is a cheap reputational asset and it is worth getting right.

What actually retains drivers inside the M60
Consistency. A driver who can rely on the same five shifts each week will stay on a lower rate than one being called ad hoc at a higher one.
Yard turnaround. Drivers compare this constantly. A site that loads promptly gets first refusal; a site that keeps drivers waiting unpaid acquires a reputation within weeks.
Honest descriptions. If a trunk includes drops, or a multi-drop round is heavier than advertised, the driver finishes the shift and declines the next one. You rarely find out why, which is what makes it expensive.
Start-point clarity. Trafford Park, Carrington, Eccles, Heywood and the airport are all "Manchester" in a brief and are spread widely. Specifying the actual site avoids placements failing on commute alone.
What we verify, and how we work with you
Physical licence, Driver CPC and digital tachograph card for every driver, licences checked for endorsements, and category entitlement confirmed against the vehicle. For container and terminal work we check relevant experience and factor in site induction time rather than promising a next-morning start.
Because we supply across the conurbation, we have a reasonable read on where your offer sits. If the obstacle is your schedule, your turnaround or your start-point ambiguity rather than your rate, we will tell you — it is less comfortable and more useful.
