Warehouse Staff Supply in Lanark: Recruitment Across the Lanarkshire Catchment

The quick answer

If your site is in the Lanarkshire logistics belt, Lanark and the towns around it are a labour catchment worth targeting deliberately. The belt’s own towns are recruited hard by everyone; the smaller South Lanarkshire towns are not, and they hold people who would travel for a decent, consistent job. The constraint is transport, and it is absolute: public transport does not reach the distribution parks at shift-change times.

The catchment nobody else is working hard

The Scottish logistics belt — Eurocentral, Bellshill, Motherwell, Coatbridge and Wishaw, all in North Lanarkshire or the northern part of South Lanarkshire — recruits intensively from its own towns. Everyone fishes the same water.

Lanark, Carluke, Larkhall and the smaller South Lanarkshire settlements are a different pool. They are twenty-odd miles south, they have fewer large employers of their own, and they are correspondingly less picked over. People there will travel for a job that is worth travelling for.

That is a genuine recruiting opportunity, and it is also why we ask where a candidate actually lives rather than treating "Lanarkshire" as one place. Lanark is not Eurocentral, and pretending it is produces placements that fail in week one.

Transport decides your pool, not pay

The distribution parks sit away from stations, and bus services do not align with shift changes. In practice, every worker on a Eurocentral or Bellshill night shift is driving there.

That has two consequences. First, if you are recruiting from the wider South Lanarkshire catchment, you are recruiting drivers — which narrows the pool and means car ownership is effectively a job requirement whether or not your advert says so. Second, transport support is the highest-leverage spend available to you. A shuttle from Carluke or Motherwell, or a travel allowance, routinely fills shifts that a rate increase does not.

Rail from Lanark towards Motherwell and Glasgow Central is useful for day shifts at sites near stations. It is not useful for the parks themselves.

What we supply across Lanarkshire

  • Warehouse operatives, pickers and packers — the volume roles across the belt.
  • Counterbalance and reach drivers — tickets verified; reach is the tighter of the two across Central Scotland.
  • Chilled and food production operatives — a significant part of this market, briefed properly on temperature and hygiene requirements before placement.
  • Goods-in and despatch clerks — WMS familiarity assessed rather than assumed.
  • Team leaders — usually temp-to-perm.

Chilled work deserves a specific mention. Attrition in temperature-controlled environments is higher when people are not properly briefed, so we set expectations honestly at interview rather than filling the shift and hoping.

How we work with Central Scotland sites

We supply warehouse staff across Lanarkshire and the Central Belt on temporary, temp-to-perm and permanent terms, drawing deliberately on the wider South Lanarkshire catchment rather than only on the belt towns.

We screen for travel realism as a first-order criterion here, because it is the single biggest predictor of whether a placement survives. If your shift timings make a site unreachable for the catchment you want, we will tell you and suggest what would change it.

Frequently asked questions

How quickly can you supply warehouse staff in Lanarkshire?
For day shifts at accessible sites, often within 24 to 48 hours. Night shifts at the distribution parks need more notice because the pool narrows to people with their own transport.
Is it worth recruiting from Lanark for a Eurocentral site?
Yes, deliberately so. The belt towns are heavily recruited; the smaller South Lanarkshire towns are less picked over and people there will travel for consistent, well-paid work.
Would a shuttle service pay for itself?
Frequently. Because the parks are unreachable by public transport at shift-change times, transport support tends to fill shifts that a rate increase does not.
Do you supply for chilled and food production sites?
Yes, and we brief candidates specifically on temperature and hygiene requirements beforehand, because unbriefed placements in chilled environments have noticeably higher attrition.
Is Eurocentral in Lanark?
No. It is in North Lanarkshire between Motherwell and Coatbridge, around twenty miles from Lanark.
